Summary
This course is for those that are looking to lead surf kayakers in moderate surf conditions. During the course candidates will develop both their personal paddling as well as their decision making and leadership skills, preparing them for assessment.

The two day course will cover the following syllabus;
Personal Paddling Skills
- Paddle out
- Take off
- Carving bottom turns
- Top turns
- Diagonal runs of varying heights
- Carved exit from the wave
- Rolling
Rescue Skills
- Deep-water rescue
- Towing
- Swimming
- Shepherding
- Carries
Safety, Leadership & Group Skills
- Skilful application of leadership principles (e.g. C.L.A.P.)
- Appropriate leadership strategies, judgement and decision-making
- Safety awareness and risk management
- Exercise appropriate group control and management and show concern for the general welfare of other group members
- Demonstrate the capability to manage a range of incidents
- Provide guidance through top tips and handy hints
